Pasadena DUID & Drug Intoxication Defense Services
Aggressive & Experienced Legal Representation
Whether you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you could get arrested for a California DUI for being on either one or a combination of both. A conviction can lead to costly fines, loss of your driving privileges, and even time spent behind bars. If you have been charged with driving under the influence of drugs (DUID), you need to hire a skilled lawyer to protect your rights and future.
At The Law Offices of Matthew Cargal, we can review your case and determine all your legal options to either get your entire case dismissed or find alternative options besides jail. With more than 25 years of legal experience, our Pasadena DUID attorney has a thorough understanding of the California criminal justice system to get the best possible outcome on your behalf.
Understanding California DUID Laws & Penalties
When a person cannot drive like a sober individual due to being intoxicated by a drug--either illegal, prescription, or over-the-counter--or a combination of drugs and alcohol, he/she could be charged with DUID in California.
A DUID is considered a misdemeanor offense, punishable by a maximum six-month jail sentence, fines of up to $1,000, and license suspension for up to six months. These are the same penalties for a DUI conviction.
However, if a DUID offense is the suspect’s fourth or subsequent offense, the crime involved injury to another person, or the suspect has one prior felony DUI conviction, then the DUID will be charged as a felony. A felony DUID carries a jail term of up to three years--or four years in the event of an injury--and fines of up to $1,000--or $5,000 in the event of an injury.
